Arran Highland Games

The Arran Highland Games, or Brodick Highland Games, are usually held on the 1st Saturday of every August. This year they will take place at Ormidale Park, Brodick, on the Isle of Arran, on Saturday 6th August 2011.

The Brodick Highland Games features fantastic traditional Scottish pipe band music, this year (as last) year including a visit from Kirkintilloch Pipe Band.

Three pipe bands participated last year, including Kirkintilloch, and they walked from the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal to Ormidale Park along the main road. With performances throughout the day, the annual event concluded with a very entertaining and popular Massed Bands and Drums back at the ferry terminal, before the bands took the boat back to Ardrossan and home.

The Highland Games will also feature traditional sporting events in the form of track and field, and there will also be heavy events – and what Highland Games would be complete without traditional Scottish Highland dancing?

Be sure to arrive early and to plan your departure from Brodick that evening – services can be exceptionally busy on the day of the Brodick Highland Games. An alternative crossing exists from Lochranza to Claonaig, however if you are heading back to Ayrshire or the Central Belt, it’s a bit of a drive!

Come to Arran on 6th August and support this first class event, the pipers, the drummers, the sportsmen, the highland dancers, and the local community in Brodick. Bring all the family!

Pipers are an integral part of the annual event in Brodick.
